Helping my lil sis Jenn move

So I have been less than diligent in updating my blog as of late. There have actually been a lot of things going on for me since my last update and I really haven't had the time to sit down and just write. The day after Callahan's, I woke up a little early to work out and then help my lil sis Jenn move. I picked Manny up from his house and we headed down to Jenn's place. It was really hot that day too, so I was just looking forward to picking up some heavy stuff. We got there and found out that the Sigma house had an upstairs haha. I think it was an extension or whatever after the house was built though. It wasn't too bad moving any of the stuff. The hardest part of the move was trying to maneuver a huge bed through a narrow hallway.

After we did the moving, Jenn took us out to eat at Red Lobster! Thanks lil sis. I had been craving crab legs for a good while and eating there was good, but just not as good as Joe's.

After dinner, we went to Wal-Mart for batteries for the stud finder because we were going to mount a flatscreen on the wall later. We also went to Keg n Bottle near State and got a couple drinks so we can kick back after a hard day's work.

We put the beers in the fridge and then found the studs to put the mount up. Turns out though, that we needed to drill holes first and then put in the anchor for the mount. We needed a 5/16" bit but the DeWalt had a keyless chuck and we had no idea how to take the Phillips bit out. (Sound complicated?) So instead we just sat down and drank beers. Passed out for a bit on Jenn's comfy bed and then went home.

I'm trying to do 2 posts in one day, watch for my surfing post later on today.

Callahan's

Yesterday, Bryce, Manny, Wes, Phuong and I hit up Wing Night at Callahan's. Wait a minute, Charlee was there too, haha. Always good seeing you bRho. We all showed up at around 7:30 and there was an hour wait to get a table. Wings were 40 cents a wing after you buy a drink, any drink, and you have to buy the wings in multiples of 5. I can't wait to become of age so I can enjoy the wings with beer, instead of raspberry iced tea haha. We've decided that we're going to hit up the food days as often as possible. There are Taco Tuesdays at On the Border and then Wing Night at Callahan's.
Manny ordered Hennessy on the rocks. Manny is always trying to be grown man status with all the drinks he buys, yet he asks for a straw haha. The waitress was hilarious too. When Manny asked for a straw, she had a "wtf really?" look on her face and then gave him his straws, nice try Manny.
Bryce bought a breathalyzer at Walgreens. Drinking + breathalyzer = adventure haha. If you have the book, read "The Sushi Story" in I Hope They Serve Beer In Hell by Tucker Max. Basically, he realizes that having a breathalyzer is the worst invention ever because having it at an outing where everyone is drinking, turns into a competition with everyone and anyone who is drinking. Not with us though, well at least not in public. We got shenanigans for the weekend planned ahead though.

There were 4 choices for wings: there were regular hot, bbq, teriyaki, and suicide. I ordered the regular hot wings. The suicide wings are basically just really spicy hot wings. Let me just say they are unpleasant though. I don't know how something that hot can be appetizing. You order the suicide wings for a competition or just to say that you ate them. Charlee and Phuong got the Russian Roulette plate. 20 wings, 18 hot and 2 suicide wings. The funny thing was, Charlee's first wing was a suicide and he was a little nervous for the rest of the wings haha. Very good chicken though. Some pieces were ugly, but they compensated that by giving us more than 5 wings.

So after some drinks and paying the bill, we went outside and blew in the breathalyzer...

*drum roll*

Manny blows a .10 and Wes blows a .02. Typical though, considering that Manny ordered a Henn on the rocks, Blueberry Wheat beer and a Pyramid Hef. Wes only got one beer. After dinner, we went to starbucks to smoke hookah for a bit. We waited until 11:35 and then Wes, Manny and I went to see Bruno. The movie was hilarious. I don't understand why so many people didn't like it.

Spontaneity

Today (or should I say yesterday), was Tuesday. And like almost every Tuesday this summer, Wes, Manny, Bryce and I hit up Taco Tuesday at On The Border in Mira Mesa. The tacos are only $1.25 a taco and you get a choice of shredded or ground beef, chicken or carnitas (pork). The tacos are a lot better than those Rubio's fish tacos. Better venue, better food, better service haha. I'm not trying to bash on Rubio's, but On The Border has them beat.

After dinner we went to Barnes and Noble and just looked around while trying to figure out what to do. I saw a section of books of on the history of California. These books were really in depth though. There were books on the histories of surfing, baseball, the Del Mar Fairgrounds. They also had books on towns in San Diego like La Jolla, Fallbrook, Chula Vista, etc. But to my dismay, there was no book on Mira Mesa haha. Makes one really appreciate San Diego when we have books on our history. People come to my city for vacation, and I really don't appreciate it. I remember going to Coronado one time and there was a cruise ship leaving the dock. People visit our city for tourist attractions, how many other cities can say that?

So while looking around at the books, I threw out the most random idea. I said to Bryce and Wes, "How about we get a board game, buy a hookah and just kick it at Starbucks?" And it actually turned out to be a good idea that followed through haha. Wes bought a game called "Settlers of Catan" and we drove down to PB to look for a smoke shop that sold hookahs. We went to PB and found a smoke shop, the owner of the store was pretty chill and we ended up talking about random stuff, especially the drag net grant that the police got to combat drag racing. Talked for a bit and then we headed back up to Mira Mesa to complete the quest.

We set up the hookah and got some blueberry and strawberry tobacco. Always saw those cool kids kicking it at Starbucks with their hookah and I always wanted to do it. Well, we're officially one of the cool kids haha.

We learned how to play "Settlers of Catan," and the game was surprisingly very fun. We spent three hours smoking hookah and learning how to play the game. Manny eventually won because the way the board was set up, he had a monopoly on the wheat which turned out to be an important source. The point of the game is to collect resources and build settlements and cities, to try and be the most successful nation. Like a mix between Risk and Monopoly, except instead of attacking each other, we withhold resources from one another haha.

I'm knocking out right now though. Gotta wake up early to drive to San Marcos for an APIFSA (Asian Pacific Islander Faculty and Staff Association) meeting to discuss goals and events for the upcoming semester. Then we got a Top 3 meeting to discuss goals for the upcoming semester as well.

Bowling

Didn't do too much yesterday. Bryce, Manny, and I went bowling yesterday. We all met up at Mira Mesa Bowl at around 9. Every time we go there, we always run into someone that one of us knows. Saw a couple of my old co-workers from The Home Depot, Dex and Luke. Always good seeing those guys.

Bought a couple beers, and then decided to pitch in on a pitcher for the next round. Bowling is fun enough as is, but doing it under the influence is just hilarious.

As we were bowling, we were comparing our releases. But don't let my pro release fool you, I always got second or third place between the three of us haha. Once in a while I'll finish first though. Anyways, for the most part, an uneventful day. We're going to hit up Taco Tuesday today. If you're down, meet us up at On The Border in Mira Mesa at 7:30!
