Let me just say that by no means am I an expert on beer, nor can I even claim to be a beer aficionado. I'm young still so anything that gets me buzzed, I appreciate. But I do know enough to know what I like. My all-time favorite beer is Corona, and in the summertime, lime and salt are ideal. I enjoy hefeweizens, ales, and lagers. But nothing beats a Corona with lime and salt.
They say that the best inventions are the ones that make you go, "Well, why didn't I think of that myself?" Budweiser certainly has the right idea by adding lime to their Bud Light to try and cater to consumers in the summer. Miller Chill and Rising Moon from Blue Moon are already lime-flavored, so of course Anheuser-Busch is going to throw their hat into the mix.
Last night was the first time I've ever had Bud Light Lime, so I decided to pay a little more attention to the details. I opened it and smelled a very slight hint of lime. I took a sip and then a swig. The lime flavor overpowers the beer taste and it basically tastes like lime juice with a hint of beer. Lime taste when you're drinking it and then a lingering lime taste after you set the beer down. Even my burp tasted like lime. A little overdone with the lime if you ask me. The thing about beer companies making drinks like this is that, lime is originally an additive. People know how much lime they like in their beer and it varies from person to person. When a company tries to define what a beer should taste like, it's going to be a hit or miss with the original consumers. But despite my apathy for this beer, it happens to be a very popular drink. To each his own. Maybe I will do more beer reviews as I get my hands on more flavors.
In the words of the great Tucker Max, it tastes like "watered-down horse piss," with a hint of lime. Was this beer able to replace the traditional corona and lime for me? Not by a long shot. Here's a tribute to my favorite beer:
